Light does not shine in light

Preparedness – 5

“Luck = Opportunity + Preparation”

Having learnt and developed key managerial skills, Joseph had acquired the ability to take over the whole empire. He just needed the opportunity. Once the opportunity presented itself, he was available.

What had he learnt?

  • He learnt how to dream.
  • He learnt how to serve.
  • He learnt how to manage people and resources to achieve a particular goal.
  • He improved his dreaming skills to interpretation of dream skills.
  • He learnt how to network.
  • He learnt integrity.
  • He became a visionary – he could recommend solutions to interpretation of dreams before they came to pass.
  • He learnt to make himself relevant wherever he found himself.

What if Joseph had accepted his fate as a bond servant without hope for a turn-around? What if he had frowned on and despised opportunities to develop himself? What if he never had seen the cup half-full instead of half-empty? He probably would not have prepared himself for the place of prime minister.

Prime Minister – The Prize of Relevance

Joseph paid the price and won the prize. He had been learning all that was necessary to stay relevant in his environment (Egypt). He found out that dreaming didn’t add value to others. Only the dreamer was gratified by the dream. So he learnt how to interpret other people’s dreams.

He found out people mostly dreamt at night so he learnt how to be an excellent manager so he could be relevant to them during the day when they were awake.

He noticed that even when people had interpretation to their dreams, they were many times frustrated because they didn’t know the next step to take. He learnt to provide solutions to their problems by telling the next step of action to take.

He moved from prison overnight to the palace by networking. Who he knew and provided value added service for in prison (the king’s butler) was who recommended him to the king when his services where required. Your network is your net worth. Your current state is not an indication of your future status. How much you have learnt with relevance to your environment is what will determine your future status.

It was relatively easy for the king’s butler to remember him because Joseph had provided a genuine solution to his problem and the problem of others in the prison. Joseph was also the manager of the prison even though a prisoner himself. What are you known for? What is it that people will mention and the name that will come to focus will be your name?

Joseph was recommended from the palace even though he provided service in the prison. Don’t despise or play down any opportunity to render value adding services to people. They might be of low estates now but could be in the place of authority and wealth tomorrow and would certainly remember you for what you have done before. Our promotion or demotion is sometimes based on the things we did before and not the things we just did.

Joseph’s brothers told his father he was dead. They even had his blood-stained coat to prove it. Regardless of how much people have referred to your situation as hopeless or how much it seems so, there is always an opportunity to launch you into the reality of your dreams if you only prepare. Someone said “to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail”.

The best time to prepare was several years ago immediately after you dreamed, the next best time to prepare is NOW!!! Raise your game and go for it.
