Suddenly, as I sit in a training hall in Jos listening to the MD, Avenues to Wealth – Adeolu Akinyemi speak to distributors about the new direction in A2W, I realize that one-twelfth of the year has gone by (Of course, by the time of this writing, about one-third of the year has been spent).
When was it that I was setting my goals for the year? When in fact was it when I greeted my loved ones ” Happy new year”. It seems like yesterday. Interestingly, January 2013 is no more and I’m almost afraid to reminisce over that month (February, March and half of April’s gone as well) to discover how much I had achieved or rather how much I hadn’t achieved.
I realize that if I must have a fulfilled and outstanding 2013, I must do a few things. You may need to do these things alongside me.
1. Review your goals
It has become imperative that you review your goals for the year. It will be foolish to forget that you’ve lost 30 days (about 105 currently) if you haven’t started working towards achieving them. If you haven’t set any goals, you may well be heading towards a frivolous year because you will not hit any targets you don’t set.
2. Reassess your position
To get to your goals, you must have an accurate idea of where you are currently. Your ability to achieve the may be anchored on your correct assessment of your current state. How you run will depend on what your goals are and what it will take to achieve them. The two most important points on a map are where you are and where you want to get to eventually. Do you know these two points for your life in 2013?
3. Reorganize your priorities
Not all activities you engage in will move you in the direction of your goals. You many need to give some things more importance based on the goals you want to achieve. Life has a way of giving you what you focus on. Ensure you focus on the activities that move you towards achieving your goals. Be wary of movement without progress.
4. Reenergize yourself
‘Success’, I heard a mentor say ‘is boring because it requires doing daily the same set of activities called success habit without flinching for many years.’ Hence, most people will not be successful because they feel it’s boring. Engage in exciting and energizing yourself to stick to successful habits, keeping in view the goals you want to achieve.
5. Run like mad
Once you are energized, run like fire’s been lit under you towards your goal. Let nothing slow you down. Don’t look around. Don’t analyze too much. Get your gear together and run! You’ll learn the lessons on the way to your goal. The faster you run, the more likely you’ll achieve your goals.
